Contra el neoliberalismo académico. A propósito de la tesis doctoral de M. E. Martín Valdunciel

Zusammenfassung

The recent María Engracia Martín doctoral thesis approachs the impact of the neoliberal discourse in the Academia, and more specifically, in the Library and Information Science field at the end of the Twentieth Century. This situation is linked to the recent mutation of Capitalism that places knowledge and information technology as creators of value. This perspective was introduced in Spanish Academia in the early years of the 21st Century, at the same time as in the rest of Europe. The familiarization with concepts such as the“information society”, “lifelong learning” or “entrepreneurship”, a hegemonic discourse on information literacy is constituted as a fundamental axis in the training of library users. The importance of technology and the use of business management is leading to the dominance of the profitability and efficiency criteria, excluding other discourses, while contradicts the premise based on common interest and the strength of the public sphere.
