Abstract

This study examines the psychometric properties of the Psycho-Social Maturity Questionnaire (Graña, Andreu, & Peña, 2017), based on the psychosocial maturity model of Steinberg and Cauffman (1996) and designed for the evaluation of adolescent psychosocial maturity. In its application to a sample of 786 males and 843 females (14-17 years), the exploratory factor analysis revealed that the three-factor model used (Temperance, Perspective, and Responsibility), presents an adequate fit to explain the variability of the data in psychosocial maturity. The main predictor of psychosocial maturity was Temperance, and we also obtained statistically significant differences in the level of maturity according to sex, being higher in females. The results suggest that this instrument reliably and validly measures the level of psychosocial maturity, as well as the influence of such maturity in the performance of antisocial behaviors.
