Résumé

The mental workload is one of the main psychosocial risk factors at work and causes major problems in the performance and health of workers. The aim of this study is t o analyze the sources of mental workload reported by a sample of nurses from Madrid (Spain). After an analysis of the tasks were derived four broad job functions: assistance, administrative, support to other personnel and tasks specifically related to medi cal specialty. The sample consisted of 297 workers in public hospitals in Madrid and mental workload was estimated for each general function using the NASA - TLX scale. The results show that workers report more mental workload on the assistance and administr ative functions, and point out as the most important workload sources the mental demand and the temporal demand. Finally, some conclusions and recommendations for a possible intervention are mentioned
