Abstract

This article presents the results of the research project that took place between the years 2015 and 2016 in the Museum of Calatayud, concerning the levels of human occupation in Bilbilis and Huérmeda during the Middle Ages (V-XV centuries), focusing on the study of the evidence provided by archeology and the analysis of material culture, combined with the identification of the written and documentary evidence of both places in relation to Calatayud. The result is a general diagram that gathers data on: the late-old mansio of the IV-V century, the VI century rock hermitage, the military architecture occupied between the IX and XIV centuries, (Castle of the Peña Mora, the watchtowers of Bámbola and Peña Mora, tower of Anchís), the XII century town with its church dedicated to Saint Barbara, and the necropolis, and the urban system of the town of Huérmeda, whose church, dedicated to Saint Giles, is an interesting example of mudéjar architecture of the XV century.
