Abstract

The analysis of the mineral medicinal waters is one of the lines of research of the Professional Medical Hydrology School of the Complutense University of Madrid. On this occasion, from the viewpoint of the Medical Hydrology, the total analysis of 99 spring waters from Spanish spas was performed and this paper show the obtained results of Fe, Cu and Zn concentrations in these waters. The analysis was performed by the atomic absorption spectrometry technique, using the flame in the case of iron and the graphite furnace in the case of copper and zinc. The results show that 7 waters exceed the concentration of 5 mg /L of iron being these waters classified as ferrous waters. None of tested waters has a concentration greater than 2 mg /L of copper, which is the maximum acceptable concentration in drinking water according to the Royal Decree 140/2003 and none of the waters represents a significant contribution of copper and zinc.
