Abstract

The main objective of the Thesis is to analyse whether the centralized management of radiology diagnosis services could be proposed as a viable model from a managerial perspective. This will be achieved in two parts. Firstly, a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical framework and the existing literature related to the centralization of radiology diagnosis will be undertaken. Secondly, further investigation will take place through an in depth field study, explored through the proposition of a range of hypotheses with particular attention given to economic, scientific, and assistance focussed aspects. To add further depth and context to this investigation, a detailed study of managerial models at a global level, to act as a point of reference, has also been carried out. In addition, the study has been examined against the general opinion of experts who specialise in the healthcare sector, including consultancy firms and the Healthcare Ministry of Spain. The Unidad Central de Radiodiagnóstico, of the Community Region of Madrid has been used as the case study in order to thoroughly evaluate the suitability of the hypotheses.
