Abstract

In this dissertation we make a theory about modernity, globalization, sport phenomena and identity. For such an enterprise we take as example the case of valencian ball. We research the game with all its symbolism within modernity. Because of the anthropological essays about valencian identity are lacking the vast majority of data in which this investigation is based came from orality and participant observation within a contemporary etnography. Results show the ways this practice hybridize within modernity, specifically within valencian modernitiy. It is analysed how the game intermingle in the policies and the technological and data advances. In this way we delve into the identity process and the collective consciousness emphasising the dicotomical relationship between globalitzation or modernity and premodernity or tradition. We find out the conflicts and contradictions which practices like this one means in the valentian culture and a diagnostic is captured about the present situation of the game, al least, in the sociological aspect. Valencian ball, in the end, assembles series of ways of doing and world views in conflict with the features that the current modernity offers.
