Abstract

The ecosystems of “dehesa” (wooded meadows) that occupy the geographical area of the regions of south-occident peninsular Spanish constitute a paradigmatical example of traditional systems of use of the natural resources in a way sustained in the time, what constitutes a contribution of the knowledge from the traditional cultures to the construction of the current proposals of a model of sustainable development. is work presents an empiric collection of data that combine the results of one eld work like a investigation ethnographic from an ecological-cultural perspective of the dehesa ecosystem, together with the application of a social survey guided to research the local knowledge and the attitudes toward the oak, like fundamental resource of this ecosystem, as well as the attitudes and the environmental identication of the local populations with key elements of its natural environment, like the quercus species that constitute the arboreal structure of the “dehesa”.
