Abstract

The teaching of thematic theory and the notion of lexical selection can help students in secondary and university education to become more aware of the structure of the lexicon of the language and, therefore, to write correctly. Based on these considerations, in this work we are going to analyze examples of two types of errors that are observed in texts written by students: errors related to the number of arguments that the predicate takes (*”la víctima se trataba de un joven”) and errors related to selection constraints (*”obtener masa muscular”). We will see that the causes that lead students to commit them include phenomena as diverse as the complexity of the construction, the attempt to avoid a vague word or the ignorance of the meaning of the words for lack of access to sufficient extensional information.
