Abstract

This Ph. D. Thesis presents an epidemiological study of animal and human toxoplasmosis in Spain, mainly in Extremadura. Serological methods, direct detection and molecular characterization were used in different biological samples from the main game and livestock species, as well as human population. Results show the high prevalence of this zoonosis, the genetic variability of Toxoplasma gondii and its clinical significance.
