This research examines the folk music schools in the area of Castile y Leon from the point of view of non-regulated education, i.e. the provincial and municipal music schools, through the teaching staff of the different specialties of each geographical area and its scope of professional activity. It is true that there are many institutions that are interested in the musical folklore of Castile y Leon. Among them are different universities (such as the University of Extremadura, the University of Valladolid, the Complutense University of Madrid), deputations (Salamanca and Zamora), as well as city councils (Palencia, Valladolid, Burgos). Also, other entities such as different broadcasting stations are involved in spreading both oral music and research work, like MundoFonías (RTVE), Tarataña (Radio3-RTVE), Entrelares (Radio Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid), RCFM (Radio Crónica Folk Musical of Mérida), Lume na Palleira (Radio Galega), Music and words (of Radio Aragón), La Jila (Radio Laredo) or Mestizaje (of Onda Maracena Granada). Similarly, the SIBE Society of Ethnomusicology, or different associations and groups (Echoes of Dulzaina de Ávila, Friends of Dulzaina de Burgos, Zascandil de Alto Voltage, Bajo Duero, Promotion of Culture and Traditional Music of Segovia, Agavica, Tierra de Pinares, etc.) promote the movement of traditional music. Although research work is increasing as it is doing the social interest in this subject, this doctoral thesis approaches, as a novelty, traditional music from the point of view of didactics in non-regulated teaching.
