Resumen
This investigation tries to contribute to a better knowledge of the way in which a new epidemic, of which etiology, prevention and treatment is not known, alters the dynamics of a collectivity. There has been studied the way in which the epidemic of Asian cholera - illness of 1833-1836 concerned Plasencia's city, the type of social reactions that it provoked, what measures were adopted on the part of the local authorities, and if these were coherent with the theses that on the disease the medical group of the epoch was supporting. This one is investigated in the sanitary, understood culture as the set of ideas, values and beliefs that sublie and give coherence to the sanitary behavior of a social group, constitutes one more component of the community and social system, which before new situations. The approach of this work is multidisciplinary, there are related the results of the statistics obtained in the epidemic with diverse variable, social, of demographic, epidemiological nature and of urban behavior. The used methodologies are own of the history, the demography, the anthropology and the medicine. With such an end of constructing a historical global speech there have consulted documentary primary sources in different files. Between the conclusions it is stated as the epidemic he supposed a deep alteration of the collectivity: it affected in the demographic development, disturbed the supplies, provoked high expenses, portrayed demographically the social differences, and polarized political attitudes.
