Abstract

This work provides thorough information regarding the sound characteristics of the flute with special focus on the Pronomos Flute as the ultimate step in the evolutionof the Boehm Flute. The first part looks into the Complex Theory. This theory provides a scientific system that extracts and classifies accoustic information produced by the flute. The second and third part will look at the properties of the Pronomos Flute and its extraordinary potential; the need for creating a specific methodology that can handle the large amount of information obtained with the Pronomos Flute. Genetics as a metaphor,is used to define the instrument and its unique sound properties. Finally, the fourth part includes pieces and works in progress written for the Pronomos Flute. This works showcase a complete new approach in flute composition. Additionally, extensive information on the construction and use of the Pronomos Flute is included.
