Resumen

A palaeomagnetic study is being carried out at 15 sites from the two ultrabasic massifs o f Sierra Bermeja and Sierra Alpujata (Ronda peridotites in western Internal Betics) and results from 7 of them are reported here. Two magnetic components were present (varying its intensity with the lithology): a low temperature component residing in Iron Sulphides and a high temperature component carried by Magnetite, which was considered the ChRM o f these samples. In one of the sites the ChRM exhibited both normal and reversed polarities. A fold test has been performed using foliation planes which was negative. ChRM directions were well grouped before tectonic correction. Inclinations were in agreement with the expected Tertiary inclinations for Iberia, but Declinations were systematically rotated to the East about 50a. This rotation pattern is similar to the one observed in the western External Zone of this Cordillera.
