Abstract
The emergence of the literary subject in the 16th century is the result of the emancipation of literature. Alejo de Venegas (c. 1498-1562) is greatly aware to the menace the new literary practices represent. His determination to defend the ethical dimension of reading, as well as to bring discredit on the fiction literature, goes with a critic of the desire for distinguishing oneself.
