Abstract
The paper focuses in new forms of leisure and entertainment flourished at the beginning of the Twentieth Century as other symptoms of a vast array of social overflow and cultural disruptive phenomena linked to the intense urbanization of the time. Using Madrid as a case study, there will be describe some of the endeavors of authorities and hegemonic social groups in their aim to control and regulate public space. Particular stress is put in debates about prostitution, considering it as a form of moral panic where it was discussed far than the regulation of sexual commerce, implying a discussion and negotiation of the social order as a whole.
