Abstract

The adoption of Western educational models in most nursing schools in the Arab countries creates a concern regarding the possible negative effects on the quality of nursing care of the Western cultural component, and the use of a non-mother tongue in interprofessional communication and in the nursing records. This research is a cross-sectional exploratory qualitative interpretive study with expert opinion through a semi-structured in-depth interview and the Delphi method. It aims to explore the reality about the use of nursing languages and the possible negative effects mentioned above. The opinion of the directors of nursing contradicts the opinion of the nurses in many of the topics addressed in this study, this may be an indicator of deficiencies in the training on nursing languages and the criteria of the quality of the documentation and possible deficiencies in the application of the nursing process and in the records. The content of the ATIC terminology seems to coincide with the perspective of the Arab nurses, and it will be good to consider its application in practice and to examine the cultural components that need adaptation to the Arab culture.
