Abstract

Introduction. This thesis sought to analyze the effectiveness of presurgical respiratory physiotherapy, with respect to of postoperative air leak, in patients undergoing surgery for lung cancer. Studied 71 patients, with a mean age of 62.58 years. Analysis of the descriptive variables of gender, the carcinogenic pathology, the type of surgical incision and of pulmonary resection, the use of glue and endostapler, and the presence of adherences. Also, analysis of the quantitative variables of age, body mass index and the forced expiratory volume in 1 second. This resulted in 2 homogeneous groups. Differed, intervention group which performed preoperative respiratory physiotherapy and control group. The statistics program SPPS version 21 was used for the analysis of the data. Conclusion. Performing preoperative respiratory physiotherapy in patients undergoing surgery for lung cancer was effective to reduce the number of patients who had postoperative air leak in intervention group, at rest and during the physiotherapy techniques, in the first 2 days postoperation; first 3 days postoperation, during autonomous exercise and on the 4th day postoperation during the eating and walking activities.
