Abstract
This article assumes the generalizad advance of Latin America's democracy contributing evidences about progress based on the election processes lived around 2006. Politics, under democratic design, however, has remarkable swindles both in the institutional field and in the development of an active citizenship and in the sphere of tis results, which let us refer to that there does exist different levels of democratic quality in the countries of the region. The article exposes explanatory hypotheses of the differences found in the countries with regard to their different levels of democratic quality, concluding with the challenges threatening it in a pressing way.
