Resumen

The peri‐urban area of the city of La Laguna, located in the Northeast of the Canary island of Tenerife, is now undergoing a very intense transformation process due to the initial approval of the General Urban Development Plan. Some of the residents of the municipality are against the detailed planning that the Plan implements on the aforementioned peri‐ urban area, because large stretches of existing Rural Settlements and Rural Land are to be transformed into building areas, disregarding the traditional value of the landscape and the environment with which the neighbours have felt identified for centuries. Our analysis focuses on establishing the specific reasons of the neighbourhood demands regarding the transformation of this peripheral area of the municipality using different techniques, focus groups being one of them.
