Las dinámicas del sector del alojamiento en la ciudad de Donostia‐San Sebastiánimplicaciones turísticas y urbanas

The accommodation sector is the core of the tourist activity in urban destinations. It generates most of the employment, forms important nodes of mobility and is an important component of the creation and regeneration of the urban fabric. In this text, which derives from a thematic study carried out for the Tourism Master Plan of Donostia‐ San Sebastián, the city’s accomodation structure and recent dynamics are analysed. On the one hand, an approximation is made to the current situation concerning conventional formats: hotels, guest houses, youth hostels, campsites and rural accomodation. Among other aspects, its typology, location at neighborhood level, recent dynamics and operations in progress are analysed. On the other hand, the recent expansion of tourist accomodation in rental houses – given the massive influx of P2P platforms such as Airbnb – is discussed. In the current debate on touristisation / tourist gentrification, the aim is to determine how these processes affect the urban model and Donostia‐San Sebastián as a tourist destination.
