Abstract

This research analyses the existing relationship of the training triad in the English teaching program at a university in Santiago, Chile. The experience acquired through supervisions in the practicum, allows us to reflect about the strains, beliefs, perceptions and satisfactions that future teachers of English show during their training process. Moreover, the research enquires into the weaknesses, strengths and difficulties that the prospective teachers experience during their teaching practice, considering the voice of cooperating teachers at schools, subject teachers at university and student teachers themselves, regarding the teaching of English as a foreign language in the 21st century Chilean school. This study is found to be relevant if we consider the important changes that our country wishes to make around the foreign language teaching at schools and it provides a profound analysis about the transformation that teaching training programs should make to achieve them.
