Abstract

The present work considers epidemiological mathematical models based on ordinary differential equations and shows its application to understand the obesity epidemic in the region of Valencia (Spain). Two mathematical models are presented to predict the evolution of the epidemic in the near future in order to define optimal strategies to address it. By the results obtained, the obesity epidemic will increase in the region of Valencia although prevention actions on valencian masculine population can be an effective strategy to control this trend.
