Resumen

The Atlantic Geoparks project, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, aims to highlight the Geoparks of the Atlantic area. The proposal of the Spanish candidacy for the declaration of a geopark in the valleys of Soba, Asón and Miera is presented. The territory covered is about 800 km2 where different geomorphological landscapes can be found (to be highlighted: coastal and wind, fluvial, karst, slope and glaciers), as well as stratigraphic, tectonic, and paleontological features. 66 Sites of Geological Interest (Geosites) has been inventoried. In addition, there are several cultural, architectural and natural elements in the territory. The declaration of a UNESCO geopark in this part of Cantabria constitutes a great opportunity to promote the development of the territory
