Resumen
Historical rainfall series are analysed for several river catchments (Tajo, Guadiana, Júcar and Segura River Basins) by means of statistical methods such as accumulated standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient and Foley and Gibbs & Maher methods. It allows interpreting dry-humid periods and temporal trends in order to relate them to the climatic pattern of flood occurrence at these basins. The studied historical time series run from 1854 up to 1985. Comparison between floods andrainfall permits to establish the climatic behaviour of the basins, spatial and temporal precipitation relationships for Central Spain and the differences between Atlantic and Mediterranean watersheds.
