Abstract

Antonio Cánovas del Castillo Vallejo, Kâulak (Madrid, 1862-1933) was the nephew of Antonio Cánovas del Castillo, the initiator of the Bourbon Restoration in 1875. He was a congressman representing Cieza in the Parliament, a civil governor and paymaster in the Ministry of Interior. He was also an art critic for La Época and La Correspondencia de España, a composer, painter, bibliophile, writer and photographer. His passion for photography led to an intense and prolific activity which resulted in several books, more than three hundred articles, two magazines and the participation in many national and international events. The object of this study is to discover all of these activities and highlight and contextualize them in order to elevate this artist to the place which he deserves in the history of Spanish photography.
