Abstract

Teacher loneliness in front of the classroom, which is derived from the first one-room schools and evolves to the present school classrooms and subjects which are not at all, or scarcely, connected, collides with the alleged reorientation towards collaborative learning, the increased network connectivity in which students are involved outside the school environment and the growing relevance of teamwork in the jobs that await them as adults. The article analyzes how the teaching profession defended its autonomy in the classroom against visibility and hierarchy, thereby paying the price of isolation. Co-teaching is then addressed, strongly defining the concept, and presenting data, results and a detailed set of arguments, including its potential in the current pandemic. Finally, this article presents how and why this is a more promising path than the bottomless pit of ratios.
