Resumen

En este trabajo se realiza un análisis detallado sobre las diferentes formulaciones teóricas acerca de la naturaleza de la respuesta de orientación (RO). Tras considerar brevemente el desarrollo histórico del concepto y presentar el modelo pionero de Sokolov, se exponen críticamente las interpretaciones teóricas y la significación funcional otorgada a la RO desde el punto de vista de las teorías de la atención y la emoción. En ambas facetas, se hace especial énfasis en los modelos propuestos por Öhman y su grupo, dado el carácter integrador de los mismos, y debido a su amplia repercusión en este área de investigación. Finalmente, se recogen aquellas posturas críticas respecto al concepto de RO, aludiendo primordialmente a la teoría de los procesos preliminares de Barry.
