Résumé

The secretary of Phillip II, Mateo Vázquez de Leca, was forced for much of his life to deny the rumors about bis dark ancestry. On the one hand, he made great efforts to credit bis descendants of the Leca, a noble family from Corsica, and on the other hand he strove to embody the design of his own heraldry that would spread his nobility, in doubt. Book covers, tapestries and, above all, plaque .stamps, helped him in the purpose of spreading the nobility of bis blood. The analysts of the evolution of this heraldry, as well as the emblematic and political discourses that accompanied it, according to the stealthy examples conserved, are the object of this investigation.
