This paper illustrates the possibilities of the lexical approach to the study of the structure of personality. The lexical approach assumes that the most relevant characteristics of human personality should be contained in natural languages. The developmental history of the lexical approach is presented and the so called �Big five� personality factors and its components are examined. The meaning of those factors as well as their relations with other personality and intelligence measures are discussed.
