Resumen
This article aims to define basic professional competencies that might get educators and social educators accredited as sustainability agents. After framing the concept of sustainability, it is claimed as a necessary and comprehensive competence in higher education. Subsequently, the current study plans of the Degree in Social Education are analysed using a social, qualitative and descriptive research methodology thus identifying several gaps regarding sustainability and the adoption of sustainable development goals. The results show the need to update the training curriculum of the social educator through a set of 16 new professional competencies.
