Abstract

Current active tectonic stress fields are deduced in intraplate areas of Iberian Peninsula with moderate to low seismic activity.Five areas are analyzed by means of individual focal mechanism data, populational analysis of focal mechanisms and populational analysis of recent faults. These areas are: Madrid Basin, Mancha Plain, Lusitanian Basin, Catalonian Range and Central Sierra Morena. Regional stress field, primary field, with NW-SE Shmax trend is deduced. lt is suposed to be related with convergence process between African an Eurasian plates. Secondary stress field, coaxial to main one but implying NW-SE extension is also deduced. This local stress can be explained by scape or flexural processes. Anyway, more global and homogeneus studies are neded to get an accurate picture of the state of stresses in intraplate areas of Iberian Peninsula.
