Abstract
The Greater Middle East region has been characterized by its volatility throughout its historic becoming. Its characteristics give it a special relevance, since it has the most important energy resources of the planet, while its communication routes and choke points frame East and West contact, while constrain products flow out of the region, in north-south direction. The new world order, which has made clear the risk of a new arms race, has been reflected in this geographical area, where actors see how their vital interests can be compromised without a global power clearly defending their interests. In this situation, it is more than likely that there is a nuclear proliferation risk.
