Abstract

This paper is a comparative study of two striated pebbles palaeostresses analysis methods, those of Schrader (1988) and Taboada (1993). In order to apply these methods, the Zaorejas Basin, located in the Alto Tajo area (Guadalajara) and belonging to the Rama Castellana of the Iberian Range, has been selected. The Schrader's method is based on direct spherical projection of solution pits and slip lineations that appear on pebbles surfaces, right assign a strain ellipsoid. Taboada (1993) proposes a slip lineations and strain ellipsoid mathematical and graphical deduction, by striates planes taken on pebbles surfaces. The Zaorejas Tertiary Basin is formed by a sycline (E-W strike) generated by fault-propagation folded in the same direction (Huertapelayo Thrust System). The Zaorejas Basin was filled by two sedimentary episodes separated by a discordance. The first interval (Eocene-Oligocene) was deposited simultaneous with the thrust faults, showing a progressive discordance. The second interval (Miocene) filled the basin and was folded later. The maximum horizontal compression has two directions right to both sedimentary intervals: 1) N150-160E and 2) N-S to N20E.
