Abstract

The theoretical context in this paper is that of text comprehension psychology. We present a brief review of some basic concepts that we hope will help to gain a better understanding of the two studies later introduced. The experimental intervention is centred on the text and not on the subjects. The main goal of both studies is to compare the differential eficacy of two types of aidsoutlines and objetiveswith regard to memory processes, comprehension and information retrieval from expository texts. A second goal is to test the effect of some experimental modifications on texts. The observed pattern of results supports the idea that storage and information retrieval processes are optimized by the introduction of an outline before reading the text. On the other hand, objetives seem to be a very limited and specific aid.
