Memoria implícita y memoria explícita intramodal e intermodal: influencia de las modalidades elegidas y del tipo de estímulos

Resumen

La memoria implícita se ha caracterizado como perceptivamente específica, independiente de las demandas atencionales y dependiente de la modalidad. En este artículo argumentamos que el efecto de la modalidad puede deberse al tipo de información que procesan las modalidades elegidas en los estudios intermodales. La mayor parte de los estudios precedentes han utilizado materiales verbales, presentados visual y/o auditivamente, nosotros, probando también el sistema háptico, hemos encontrado transferencia completa entre visión y tacto con objetos familiares. Comprobamos que ni el tipo de procesamiento (superficial o semántico) ni el retraso estudio-test influían en la memoria implícita. Más aún, la exploración háptica de objetos, seguida de la identificación de palabras, no produjo priming. Estos resultados sugieren que la facilitación depende de la activación de descripciones estructurales de los objetos, que son abstractas y duraderas, semejantes en ambas modalidades
