Abstract

Dealing with the subject of the theatre workshop in school, it is always present the risk to remain stuck within the wide scientific and pedagogic literature that legitimates “ theatre” in the didactic paths as one of the most significant and effective tools to develop social, creative and expressive competences without reaching a clear conclusion which could solve the situation and change the status quo. Our thesis rises just from the origins of the above legitimacy, trying to put together the elements of theatrical pedagogy with the instruments of innovative teaching promoted by schools and institutions nowadays, this without leaving aside the legislative procedures and a survey of “ best practices” that led us to dedicate a whole section to Spain, that has a definitely more sympathetic school system and an approach to education, resulting in wider space dedicated to theatre. The core study of this research is a quality and quantity analysis carried out on a sample of 6 schools, focused then on 4 theatre workshops in 4 school institutions, aimed at outlining the relations between needs and “wants “ among young people with the positive contribution of theatre. Theatre has always been a life instrument, rather than a didactic one, and this is what young people ask for today . They don’t want to be told that theatre is a way to safe their life, neither meant to help them, as they would refuse it: theatre is here to stay, this what they want and this is why theatre workshops should be promoted and even included in the educational curricula.
