Abstract

This work has been developed by the Section of Preventive Conservation of the IPCE, which fundamentally has carried out labors of technical support for the design or improvement of showcases, using different technical resources and applying criteria of preventive conservation. The criteria that determine the technical characteristics to guarantee the levels of control with regard to the factors that can suppose important risks of deterioration for certain objects of collections of museum, or that belongs to temporary exhibitions, etc., have to be contemplated from the point of view of the means with which the institutions have. Though the most evident case of an overall view could be the control of the environmental conditions, other aspects like safety and accessibility to the pieces also must have the same global analysis, to optimize the resources having the sufficient means for the control of a certain risk. In a general way, and bearing the previous considerations in mind, are able of being included in showcases the objects, fragile of small or medium size, those the deposition of powder or the incident of certain pollutants supposes a serious problem of conservation, and those who need specific environmental conditions and different ones from those who exists in the room or space of the museum. Also certain objects can exist with specific problematic of conservation that need his incorporation in a showcase, without being contained in the groups previously mentioned.
