Abstract

A conventional digestibility trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of increasing levels of cracked corn supplementation to a diet based on rygrass hay (Lolium multiflorum), (5.87% crude protein; 66.23 neutral detergent fiber) fed ad libitun on digestible organic matter intake. Experimental treatments were SM: hay+0.2% body weight (BW) of soybean meal + minerals; BM: SM + 0,4% BW of cracked corn (CC); MM: SM + 0,8% BW of CC; AM: SM +1,2% BW CC Treatments were adjusted to contain a similar ratio between ruminal degradable protein and digestible organic mater intake (DIP:DOMI), by the inclusion of urea. Were used eight, 12 months old, Red Angus steers, averaging 260 kg were used in a completely randomized design The quadratic relationship found between the level of corn intake and the organic matter digestibility (OMD) associated to the linear effect over the DOMI, produced a linear increase in DOMI.
