There are different theoretical perspectives on World Knowledge and Context in the study of Discourse Relations. The Connectivity Model (Renkema 2009) grounds on World Knowledge to justify discourse relations. The Construction of Discourse approach (Garrido 2007) is based on linguistic features as triggers for a fixed knowledge. The aim of the article is to confront these approaches through a re-analysis of some examples of the Connectivity Model as viewed from the Construction of Discourse's perspective. The results show the superiority of the Construction of Discourse analysis. Firstly, it reduces ambiguity in the role of World Knowledge. Further it can be applied to a wider range of examples, also leading to the creation of new hypotheses on other theoretical matters.
