Resumo
Purpose/method: We report a case of decreased visual acuity and bilateral monocular diplopia secondary to head and face trauma. Results/Conclusions: Head injuries can cause a loss of visual function secondary to traumatic optic neuropathy. Nerve damage can be caused by direct or indirect injury, the latter being the most frequent. Computed tomography is the preferred method for diagnosis but in cases of indirect injury shows no significant findings. Treatment with megadoses of steroids versus observation is controversial. Monocular diplopia has not been described in association with traumatic optic neuropathy.
