Resumen

El artículo analiza la relación existente entre crecimiento económico y cohesión social en los países que configuraban la Unión Europea 15, a lo largo de un dilatado periodo de tiempo (desde la década de los ochenta del pasado siglo hasta la actualidad). Esa relación se aborda desde dos perspectivas complementarias. En primer término, se considera la intensidad del crecimiento; en segundo lugar, se discute su impacto sobre dos variables centrales para la cohesión social: el empleo y los salarios. El texto concluye que el nexo entre ambos planos, lejos de lo que supone la economía convencional, ha sido, en esos años y en ese espacio económico, débil y ambiguo, lo cual obliga a un replanteamiento en profundidad de los contenidos y la calidad de los modelos de crecimiento implementados.
