Resum
The pplication of environmental compensation has been developed in Spain since the introduction of environmental impact assessment, although it has been a real expansion since the enactment of Directive 92/43/EEC, when it begins the implementation of compensatory measures for the affection to Natura 2000 areas. In this study all environmental impact statements issued by the entral Government, from the beginning of the procedure until the end of 2011, has been reviewed, selecting those that propose environmental compensation, and analyzing them according to the type of measures proposed and the reasons for application.
