Abstract
In recent years, the Hydraulics Laboratory of the Centre for Hydrographic Studies (CEDEX) has carried out a study about fish passage behaviour in a vertical slot fishway built for that purpose in this Laboratory. The ob-jective pursued by this research is to provide design criteria for this type of fishways that consider the fish swim-ming abilities. To that end, the behaviour of four native species has been analysed: brown trout (Salmo trutta), Iberian nase (Pseudochondrostoma polylepis), common barbel (Luciobarbus bocagei) and Mediterranean barbel (Luciobarbus guiraonis)
