This paper analyses the development of gendered-based differentiation in political issues in the early 20th century Spain. At the same time, Spanish women started to be involved in political parties and were appointed as city councillors and mayors. Women's part within politics was explained as a social extension of their gender role within the family. Although, women's presence in political parties represented an improvement for women's representation in politics, it did not affect the implementation of gendered division of tasks within local politics.
