In 1869 a revolution ended the government of Isabel II, ending a reign exhausted by the corruptions of moderate policy. The provisional government emerged after the revolution, set up a commission drawing up a constitution that was approved months later by the courts. The passing of the Constitution led to a broad parliamentary debate in which Republicans, who had achieved a broad representation in elections, opposed it, considering “counter” and disagree with the basic principles advocated, where should be put in the new political regime.
