Abstract

The process of Hellenization that Rome suffers from the third century BC is reflected with great intensity in the teaching approach, which had been used traditionally. In this context of profound social transformations, we have evidence of a master named Plotius Gallus, who would have founded the first latin school of rhetoric. Nevertheless, the remaining sources coincide in highlighting that this school would not have been operating for a long period of time, because it was closed short time after its opening. The present work aims to shed light over the reasons, which would have promoted the adoption of such a controversial measure.
