At the end of July or the beginning of August 1568, funerals were held in Orihuela for the soul of Prince Don Carlos de Austria, who had just died. In the town’s cathedral, a burial mound was erected and the temple was decorated with mourning drapes. All the written tributes in Spanish for such a solemn occasion were verses by Garcilaso de la Vega.
