Abstract
Service Learning (S-L) is a teaching methodology that combines the students' learning processes with a service to the community. This paper describes an experience of S-L linked to subjects of Clinical Microbiology of the Degrees in Biology, Biochemistry and Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid. The multidisciplinary team includes three teachers, two researchers, 20 students and four foundations that serve people at risk of exclusion. Through a playful activity of projection of fiction films, university students teach adequate ways of prevention of infectious diseases to disadvantaged population groups The results reveal significant acquisition of specific knowledge in Public Health and general competences as autonomous research, critical thinking or teamwork. The Service-Learning project has finally contributed to the development of social awareness, commitment and responsibility with the needs of the environment.
