Abstract

In 75 years of atomic age the world has experienced times of fear and rapprochement regarding the use of nuclear weapons. At the beginning of the twenty-first century’s second decade, a trend towards the use of nuclear weapons in crisis resolution seems to be emerging again. If this were to happen, the current nuclear non-proliferation regime could change dramatically, especially concerning international treaties which have led to these weapons reduction and prevented their proliferation. In the dispute over global leadership, the new nuclear postures of the US, Russia and possibly China, stand out. How these states act will largely determine the nuclear future in the new global order.
